Quilting Basics: Module 2, with Annie & Kirsten Smith
Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
This class is an in-depth instruction on quilt making, much like a college course. It is offered in three-week modules, which will allow the student to take the classes in bite-size pieces. Each student is required to take Module #1 - the Basics as a pre-requisite to the other modules. Quilting Basics is the perfect class for beginning quilters and for those who wish to hone their quilting skills, including those who want to break old habits. Each student will make a Sampler quilt which will teach you complete quilt construction from choosing your fabrics to finishing your quilt. The course textbook is "Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!!" by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes.
Module One - the Basics · In this session, you will first learn color and how to pick the fabrics for your quilt. You will make a fabric swatch resource book and learn the first three blocks which are done by simple, quick block construction.
Module Two - Building Your House · In this session, you will learn how to use fabrics to your advantage in constructing a house block and doing the landscaping, including stars in the sky and additional blocks that incorporate an accurate way to do half-square triangles.
Module Three - Beyond the Stars · In this session, you will learn additional ways to build half-square triangles and do some hand-appliqué and hand-piecing methods to construct your blocks. How to draft a quilt block is also in this session.
Module Four- Y-seam construction and finishing techniques · In this session, you will learn how to use templates to do Y-seam construction, everything you've always needed to know about batting, borders and binding, and anything else you need to finish your quilt.
